Ariel Adrian – Athlete of the Month

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I’m a Literacy Specialist/Reading Teacher in a local Middle/High School. When my nose isn’t in a book and I’m not at the gym, you could find me drinking a whole lot of coffee, traveling, cooking and spending time in the sun.

When/Why Did you start CrossFit?

I started at CrossFit right around Thanksgiving 2016. I needed a change from my workout routine and fell in love with the programming. While I have always been enthusiastic about exercising, I usually didn’t feel motivated after a long day at work to go into a large gym and work out alone. However, at CrossFit Peak Dynamics, the coaches are awesome at programming challenging and fun workouts that push me to my best potential, and have taught me many routines that I can do on my own. The programming was definitely the biggest pull for me to try CrossFit, but the community is what brings me here every day.

What’s your favorite type of WOD?

On a day I want to push myself, I really like Chippers because we don’t do them too often! Chippers have a lot of different movement’s performed at high volumes. One of my favorite workouts at CrossFit Peak Dynamics was the 12 Days of Christmas WOD- where we did 12 different movements 1, 1-2, 1-2-3 reps, etc. I love that “lay on the floor and feel so accomplished” post-workout feeling! But… on a normal day, I’m a big fan of short AMRAPs. Fast and quick!

What is your favorite movement?  Which movement keeps you on the couch when you see the WOD?

[Kipping pull-up, bandless pull-ups, unbroken doube unders, Squat Cleans?]

My favorite movement is squats! Something about the burning in my legs that I really love to hate. Nothing really keeps me on the couch- there’s a lot I can’t do well yet, but Bryan and Jay are awesome at spending time with each member to scale, sub out movements and even practice over and over.

What is your ideal cheat meal?

A HUGE rack of ribs and fries! With a peanut butter sundae for dessert!

What advice would you give someone looking to start CrossFit?

CrossFit is for EVERYONE! Confidence is key-  you will feel so accomplished after every workout- and the feeling and vibes in our “box” (that’s CrossFit lingo for “gym) are motivating and encouraging. There’s no better feeling than hearing, “Great job!” or “You killed it today!” or seeing your numbers go up, and times go down. CrossFit is designed so anyone can scale any workout so even though it may be intimidating to start, everybody starts somewhere and the whole experience is customizable. And most importantly- never say NEVER! Some movements may seem out of reach but with solid training, some goals might be more achievable than expected!
